Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday! Today we are going to play with watercolors. We will use watercolor paper, watercolors, water and a brush. Watercolors can be rather unpredictable and that may scare you, but actually, it’s a lot of fun! You need just a tiny bit of paint and some water to start making art. Pick up lots of water and then pick up a bit of paint - any color you like. Make sure the paint you apply is wet - ideally you have a little well that will touch the next color you add and then you just let it happen. Make sure you clean your brush in the water each time you pick up another color. I mix two yellows and then add a little bit of red. The red and yellow make a nice orange and I don’t need to do a lot, I just make the we colors of paint touch and then the colors will bloom into each other. You could even try tilting your paper and direct the paint to left or right, or up or down. But I’m leaving it up to whatever happens right there on my paper. While the paint is still wet I also add some dots for a playful effect. You can actually see those dots bloom out. And there you go: you painted a colorful bug! let’s do another one, mixing different colors. A little tip: ready made watercolor boxes often have colors next to each other that match well. But this little exercise will also be a great way to get to know your palette a little bit better. Try mixing many color combinations - some combinations will work better than others. Why don’t you try it and see what you find out? I created 4 little colorful bugs and could go on forever, but I won’t - I will leave you to it. You could create a bug pattern like this - you could let the paint dry and add more details or just leave them dry like this. Whatever you do, enjoy the luscious colors and the magic of the watercolors mixing into each other, and make awesome art!
