Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday! In this video I am flipping through my Hahnemühle watercolor sketchbook. I like switching paper types and formats often because it keeps me on my toes. This book has watercolor paper with a bit of tooth, so the materials behave very differently from my previous sketchbook with smooth paper. If you missed that sketchbook tour, watch that next, here: https://youtu.be/yDQbr-Q9Z1c The first few pages of any new sketchbook can feel a little awkward, but also exciting because there are new discoveries on every page. I love how smooth paper works with my fountain pens, but the rougher watercolor texture gives an interesting character to my drawings too. The good thing is that I never have to choose. I switch between sketchbook types and brands each time I start a new one. This one holds so many great memories, especially with friends. About half of this sketchbook was filled while I was in Paris teaching the Paris Sketchbook workshop with my friends Cynthia Morris and Marcus McAllister. It was such a joy to teach together that we are doing it again next year. You can already reserve your spot: https://www.originalimpulse.com/paris-sketchbook/ As soon as I headed to Paris, my inner artist switched on. I drew while preparing for class, drinking coffee, during class, at lunch, on our sketching outings and sometimes in the evenings at my apartment to unwind. I also pushed myself a bit by adding more writing, lettering and even Haiku. Cynthia always inspires me to write them, which makes me wonder why some creative habits only show up when certain people are around. This sketchbook filled up faster than usual. Less than three weeks from start to finish. And then I filled another sketchbook - stay tuned for a flipthrough of it! Sketchbook shown: Hahnemühle watercolor sketchbook, A5 ....
