Draw Tip Tuesdays - Draw Tip Tuesday: Paint Your Palette

Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday! Did you ever have the feeling that the blank page is just staring right back at you because you don’t know what to fill it with? Here’s a tip: draw your art supplies! Let’s draw our paint box. This is an intruigingly small watercolor box. Bought in a toy shop, and after washing out the cheap watercolor paint, I filled it with my own favorite colors of tube paint. It’s so tiny that it’s perfect on location, it hardly takes up any space in my bag. Along with a pen and a brush - it’s a complete on-the-go sketch kit! Put your watercolor box in front of you, take out a waterproof pen and draw the box. Wobbly lines are okay - when you start adding watercolors you will see they will complement your drawing - wobbly or not. Add hatching lines for shadows if you want. Then, using water and a brush, paint the colors of the palette. It doesn’t get any easier than this: no mixing, just dipping into the colors and painting your drawing as if it were a coloring page. Make sure to leave bits of whites, for highlights. They will make the paint wells of your palette drawing look shiny and wet. If you like, you can paint the rest of your drawing as well, and add shadows too. Now, it looks a bit too neat for me - my real palette is a bit smudged, so I paint some colorful smudges in my drawing too. There you go. A Palette painting! Thank you for watching this video.
