Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday! Let’s play with letters today! Here’s a fun and simple trick to give your letters a 3d effect without much effort. Write a word in block letters. It’s important to draw straight letters, and without any curves. Your ‘O’ for example, should look something like a square, not a circle. Now on each end of your letter, draw a triangle. Then, connect the tips of the triangles, with a line. See what happens? You are drawing a sharp edge. For the ‘H’ here, draw another connecting line in the middle, and ‘arrows’ - parallel to the top and bottom triangle lines. For these long sides like with the ‘E’ and the ‘L ‘and the ‘O’ here in the word ‘hello’, draw lines from corner to corner, to connect those sharp edges. Then, imagine a light source on the left, and hatch the shades that would fall on the right side of the edged letters. I did this using a colour pencil, but you can do this with pen, pencil, paint… whatever medium you want. Whatever you do, you can make awesome art.
