Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday! I often get questions like "what do you usually start with when you draw a scene?" Well, I start just anywhere, and I do that without planning or thinking too much, so that I am ahead of my inner critic. Before that voice can even speak up about all the things that can go wrong or how bad I will mess up the page, I already made a first mark, that then I just have to keep going with. I am working with a medium that I can't erase, so there's no turning back. I am doing myself a big favor with that, because once I get started, I am enjoying the process, even though I have no idea what the result is going to be like. By starting just anywhere, I give myself room to be free, be bold, and be courageous. Also, I learned throughout the years to let go of perfection, because there is no such thing. Of course I have messed up pages by overworking it or mixing muddy watercolors, but that's part of the learning process. You have to make 'mistakes' (happy accidents!) and take your drawing too far, to know what to do better or different next time. If you're not stumbling a bit, you're not learning.
