METABOLISM 2. BILE PRODUCTION 3. HORMONE PRODUCTION 4. TOXINS REMOVAL 5. BLOOD FILTRATION The Liver has many lobules inside it for performing all its functions. Lobules are small divisions of the liver defined at the microscopic scale. Liver lobules are hexagonal cylindrical structures between 0.8 to 2 mm in diameter. The healthy adult lobules are 1.5 mm in diameter. The human liver contains 50000 to 100000 individual lobules.Lobules are working units of livers, and have many structures like:- 1. PORTAL TRIAD 2. HEPATOCYTES 3. SINUSOIDS 4. KUPFFER CELLS 5. ENDOTHELIAL CELLS 6. STELLATE CELLS What is Bile? Bile is a fluid that is made and released by the liver and stored in the gallbladder. Bile helps with digestion, It breaks down fats into fatty acids, which can be taken into the body by the digestive tract. How Liver Works? When the liver is not able to remove toxic substances from blood then it converts them into less toxic substances. Example: Liver converts toxic Ammonia into less toxic Urea. The liver cleans and filters the blood. When the liver has filtered the blood, and broken down harmful substances, its by-products are excreted into the bile or blood. Bile by-products enter the intestine and leave the body as feces (stool).Blood by-products are filtered out by kidneys, and leave the body in the form of urine. When you eat proteins, the intestine bacteria break them down into amino acids. Ammonia is produced from leftover amino acids. This ammonia is absorbed by the microvilli of the small intestine and gets delivered to the liver via the portal vein. Ammonia is a nitrogenous waste, it is harmful to humans when present in high amounts inside our body and it must be removed from the body. Normally, ammonia is processed in your liver, where it's transformed into another waste product called urea. The urea is then carried to your kidneys, where it's eliminated in your urine (pee).
