It's simply a case of running to where you need to go directly and quickly, and then hit the right keys at the required time. If you miss it the first time, the practice will probably mean you get it the second. Run straight into the shop, go to the back room in the left of the shop and inspect the scratches then ignore the prompt to intimidate the shop keeper - move to the bookcase until you get the prompt to force it open. Then release the captives and run back to where you started for a simple gold. For the record, I skipped the cut scenes in this run and edited them back in later.
