Short lecture on the helium atom Hamiltonian. The Hamiltonian operator of the helium atom include the kinetic energy of the nucleus and 2 electrons as well as the potential energy of the Coulomb potential between all 3 pairs of charged particles. The electron repulsion term makes this non-separable, meaning it cannot be solved exactly. We need approximate methods to solve for the energy of the helium atom.
