Short lecture on the classical wave equation. The classical wave equation relates the second derivative in space to the second derivative in time of a wave function. This second order partial differential equation (PDE) is typically solved using separation of variables. This leads to a set of solutions which are sines and cosines in both space and time. This general solution is then restricted by using the parameters of the specific desired application.
