Short lecture on the Bohr hydrogen model radius. Bohr assumed that the electron in a hydrogen atom travels in a fixed circular orbit around the proton / nucleus with a quantized value for angular momentum. By balancing the Coulomb force and centrifugal force acting on the electron, we can derive an expression for the allowed radii of the orbits of the electron. The lowest energy orbit has a radius of 0.529 Angstroms (also 52.9 picometers, 5.29 * 10^-11 m), also called the Bohr radius, a_o.
