Short lecture on postulate 4 of quantum mechanics. A postulate is a statement that is not proven, but assumed to be true and judged on the validity of its conclusions. Postulate 4 of quantum mechanics states that if a system is described by a wavefunction (psi), then the average value of a physical property A is given by the expectation value formula defined here. If the wavefunction is normalized, the denominator is 1 and only the numerator needs to be computed. If the wavefunction is an eigenfunction of the operator, then the uncertainty of its value is zero.
