Short lecture on molecular orbital inversion symmetry. The molecular orbitals of homonuclear diatomic molecules are eigenfunctions of the inversion operator. The eigenvalue is either +1 or -1. Those with +1 are labelled gerade, symmetric with respect to inversion. Those with -1 are labelled ungerade, antisymmetric with respect to invesrion.
