Short lecture on wave-particle duality. The photoelectric effect demonstrated that light has both wave-like and particle-like properties, so de Broglie hypothesized the same is true of matter. The proposed wavelength of matter was Planck's constant divided by the momentum of the particle. Applying this formula to an electron in a fixed circular orbit around a nucleus leads to a quantized formula for angular momentum in exact agreement with Bohr's hypothesis. The quantized angular momentum is required to create a non-interfering wave during orbit whose wavelength is an integer fraction of the orbit's circumference.
