Short lecture on blackbody radiation. When a blackbody is heated, radiation of varying frequencies and intensities is emitted based on the temperature of the blackbody. Classical theory, according to the Rayleigh-Jeans law, incorrectly predicts that the intensity depends quadratically on the frequency, leading to the ultraviolet catastrophe. Max Planck fixed this error by using a quantum hypothesis (assuming the energy of particles inside the backbody is quantized) which derives the correct experimental spectrum when choosing the proper value of Planck's constant.
