Welcome to Week 7 Tutorial 3 of the course "Mathematics for Data Science I" by Profs. Neelesh Upadhye, Madhavan Mukund. Full Course: https://study.iitm.ac.in/ds/course_pages/BSMA1001.html Video Overview This tutorial presents a real-world word problem involving Saraswati buying and selling gold chains. Using a cubic polynomial function to represent the price of gold over time, we calculate the rate of gold per gram at different intervals. We determine the gold price after 10 months, then compare scenarios to find the extra amount Saraswati would have paid if she sold her first chain after 6 months and bought a new one. The problem connects polynomial functions with practical financial decision-making. About IIT Madras' online Bachelor of Science programme IIT Madras offers four-year BS programmes that aim to provide quality education to all, irrespective of age, educational background, or location. The BS programme has multiple levels, which provide flexibility to students to exit at any of these levels.
