Welcome to Week 3 Lecture 2 Part A of the course "Mathematics for Data Science I" by Profs. Neelesh Upadhye, Madhavan Mukund. Starting with the definition of slope as rise over run (_y/_x), we derive the formula for the slope of a quadratic function f(x) = ax_ + bx + c at any point. We also see that the function has rate of change equal to zero or slope equal to zero at x = -b/2a, which corresponds to the vertex of the parabola. This builds a bridge between linear slope and the changing slope of curves, preparing students for calculus concepts.
