Welcome to Week 4 Tutorial 5 of the course "Mathematics for Data Science I" by Profs. Neelesh Upadhye, Madhavan Mukund. Full Course: https://study.iitm.ac.in/ds/course_pages/BSMA1001.html Video Overview This lecture explores a production optimization problem where the production rate of a material depends on two factors, f1 and f2, both linear functions of the raw material’s purity (x). By combining these, we form a quadratic function representing the production rate. Using the vertex properties of parabolas, we determine the value of x that maximizes production. The session highlights the practical application of quadratic functions to engineering and real-world optimization challenges.
