Chad provides an introduction to waves in this lesson. Definitions for transverse waves and longitudinal waves are first provided. A transverse wave is a wave in which the elements of the medium move perpendicular to the direction the wave travels. A longitudinal wave is a wave in which the elements of the medium move parallel to the direction the wave travels. The equation giving the relationship between wave speed, frequency, and wavelength is then provided with a sample calculation performed. The equation showing the relationship between the speed of a wave on a string, the tension in the string, and the linear mass density of the string is provided and a sample calculation performed. The lesson is concluded with Chad comparing and contrasting constructive and destructive interference. He shows that when two waves are in phase constructive interference occurs, whereas if two waves are out of phase destructive interference occurs. 00:00 Lesson Introduction 00:44 Transverse and Longitudinal Waves 04:32 Wave Speed, Frequency, and Wavelength 05:32 Speed of a Wave on a String 08:29 Constructive and Destructive Interference Check out Chad's General Physics Master Course: https://www.chadsprep.com/physics-youtube #generalphysics #physicstutorial
