Team dynamics refers to how people’s personalities and behaviors affect a team. Patrick Lencioni's 5 dysfunctions of a team include: absence of trust, fear of conflict, lack of commitment, avoidance of accountability, and inattention to results. When these dysfunctions occur in a team, the team dynamics are often poor and the result is lost productivity.  There are several blocking personalities that can negatively affect team dynamics: The aggressor: the one who is very outspoken, too outspoken so others do not have a chance to share. The negator: critical of others’ ideas and quick to put them down. The withdrawer: says nothing and contributes very little. The recognition seeker: this role thinks about themselves and tends to be dominant in their speaking and behaviors.  The joker: while humor can often be good to build teams, sometimes it can be distracting. Many factors exist for why a person is being so difficult. Some of the strategies you can use to deal with challenging team members include first understanding what may be going on outside of the team that could be affecting them, having an honest conversation with them to discuss strategies on how to improve, then making sure to follow up.  HROB152 Ch 8 Part 3
