Groupthink occurs when a group of people make a decision that isn’t optimal, and which is spawned by the urge to conform to what  the person believes the group wants.  Groupthink can be minimized by awareness of the factors that contribute to groupthink.  There are several tools to help make decisions in groups, such as the nominal group technique, delphi technique, majority rules, and consensus.
