「Learn Japanese」 Volitional Form (Verb Conjugation) The volition form is used to express a willingness, or volition, to perform a certain action. In English, this would translate to "I will do VERB" or "let's VERB." In order to conjugate う-verbs into their volitional form, replace the う at the end of the Dictionary Form of the verb with ō, or, おう. *Note that the Japanese character お is often integrated into the respective consosant preceding it. For examples, see below. Example(s): 言う (to say) - 言おう 読む (to read) - 読もう 待つ (to wait) - 待とう 書く to write) - 書こう In order to conjugate る-verbs into their volitional form, replace the る at the end of the Dictionary Form of the verb with yō, or, よう.
