Welcome to Week 5 Tutorial 4 of the course "Statistics for Data Science - I" by Prof. Andrew Thangaraj. Full Course: https://study.iitm.ac.in/ds/course_pages/BSMA1002.html Video Overview This tutorial explores an important real-world question: Is there a gender pay gap among nurses, and is there a correlation between gender and monthly income? Using a dataset of nurses’ earnings, we calculate average incomes for men and women and apply statistical analysis through the Point-Biserial Correlation Coefficient (rPB). You’ll learn how to encode gender, compute key statistics, and interpret the rPB value to determine whether a significant relationship exists between gender and income. The session highlights how data can reveal insights into gender-based earnings disparities and supports deeper understanding of statistical relationships in social data.
