Welcome to Week 5 Tutorial 2 of the course "Statistics for Data Science - I" by Prof. Andrew Thangaraj. Full Course: https://study.iitm.ac.in/ds/course_pages/BSMA1002.html Video Overview This tutorial presents a combinatorics problem involving the selection and arrangement of dishes. Out of a total of 10 dishes (5 special and 5 ordinary), we need to serve 7 dishes while ensuring that at least 3 are special and that all special dishes are served consecutively. The problem is approached using case analysis — considering 3 special, 4 special, and 5 special cases — and calculating the total number of possible serving orders for each scenario. This tutorial illustrates how to effectively apply the principles of permutations and combinations to solve structured counting problems step by step. About IIT Madras' online Bachelor of Science programme IIT Madras offers four-year BS programmes that aim to provide quality education to all, irrespective of age, educational background, or location. The BS programme has multiple levels, which provide flexibility to students to exit at any of these levels. Depending on the courses completed and credits earned, the learner can receive a Foundation Certificate from IITM CODE (Centre for Outreach and Digital Education), Diploma(s) from IIT Madras, or BSc/BS Degrees from IIT Madras.
