Full Transcript

http://Parenttools.org has created a series of 6 videos designed to help frustrated parents with difficult teens. The information in the videos is applicable not only for parents dealing with difficult teens, but is an excellent resource for parents of children of all ages. In fact the sooner a parent starts using the techniques taught in these videos, the sooner they will see a positive impact with their children's behavior. This is the 1st of 5 sample clips from the 4th video in the series titled "Building Good Relationships & Rapport". The first and foremost recommendation for parents to improve communication, rapport, and relationship is to eliminate the destructive forms of communication such as yelling or shouting, lectures, nagging, threats, arguing, scolding, guilt trips, put down or criticisms. These destructive forms of communication damage self esteem and hurt the child's spirit. There are no children that appreciate or benefit from being yelled at, lectured to, or put down. These forms of communication are universally despised by children and consistently hurt relationships, build resentment, and foster resistance. All things parents do not want to create with their children. The question is, why do so many parents use these forms of communication? Parents are hopeful that if they yell, lecture, nag, or use threats, their child will straighten up, freeing the parent from having to take action or apply consequences. The child may straighten up for a moment but the child will continue with their behavior as they see fit. http://Parenttools.org is part of a non-profit organization that help parents learn how to be better parents.
