http://Parenttools.org has created a series of 6 videos designed to help frustrated parents with difficult teens. The information in the videos is applicable not only for parents dealing with difficult teens, but is an excellent resource for parents of children of all ages. In fact the sooner a parent starts using the techniques taught in these videos, the sooner they will see a positive impact with their children's behavior. This is the 3rd of 5 sample clips from the 5th video in the series titled "Making Changes with Your Teen". The second method children use to win negotiations with their parents is "Give me what I want or I will make your life miserable." Again, this method isn't a much conscious in design, as instinctive and learned. As mentioned earlier, when your child cried or made a fuss until they got what they wanted, they began to use this method. Later, they learned that if they pestered you enough, you would at times cave in and let them do what they wanted. They found many times, they could get what they wanted because it simply wasn't worth the fight or effort on your part to tell them no, or deal with them. Many times as parents, we found it easier and certainly quieter to just give them what they wanted. In the precess we reinforced a powerful method they could use to win negotiations. http://Parenttools.org is part of a non-profit organization that help parents learn how to be better parents.
