Chad provides a succinct lesson on how to balance nuclear reactions. In nuclear reactions, elements are not balanced as nuclear reactions are unique in that the identity of elements can change. Rather the mass numbers and atomic numbers are balanced on each side of the reaction arrow with the identities of species being determined by their atomic number. Two examples of how to identify the missing particle through balancing nuclear reactions are provided. This is followed by one final example showing the special shorthand notation used for nuclear transmutations and how to convert such shorthand to a balanced nuclear reaction.
