In this lesson Chad introduces the concept of electronegativity and reveals the trend for electronegativity on the period table. He then shows how to distinguish between nonpolar and polar covalent bonds based upon differences in electronegativity. Chad then demonstrates how to use bond polarity and molecular geometry to determine whether a molecule is polar or nonpolar overall. He demonstrates this with several examples including CO2, COS, BCl3, CF4, CH2Cl2, NH3, and H2O.
