Chad provides an introduction to both titrations and buffers in this lesson. He shows the anatomy of a titration curve and identifies the equivalence point. He also defines the titrant and the analyte and describes the role of an indicator in a titration. He then shows how the equivalence point can be used to calculate the concentration of the analyte and performs an example calculation. Chad then introduces buffers defining what they are and showing how they are produced. He concludes the section by showing how the pKa of an acid determines its effective range as a buffer and how to compare maximum buffering efficiencies among buffer solutions.
