Chad provides a summary of three period trends: atomic radius, ionization energy, and electron affinity. He explains the trend for atomic radius in terms of the number of shells of electrons and the effective nuclear charge. He then shows how the trend for atomic radius is related to bond length how ionic radius compares to atomic radius, and the relative radii in an isoelectronic series. Chad then presents the general trend for first ionization energy and how to identify the numerous exceptions and shows the relationship between the successive ionization energies and an element's number of valence electrons. Finally Chad covers the general trend for electron affinity as well as the numerous exceptions to the trend. I've created a high school chemistry page that organizes all my videos by chapter - just an easier way for you to watch my YouTube videos. Check it out at https://www.chadsprep.com/chads-high-school-chemistry-videos/ If you want all my study guides, quizzes, and practice exams, check out my premium course at https://www.chadsprep.com/high-school-chemistry-youtube 00:00 Lesson Introduction 01:17 Atomic Radius Trend 02:03 Effective Nuclear Charge 09:18 Bond Length and Atomic Radius 11:28 Ionic Radius 16:12 Isoelectronic Series 17:58 Ionization Energy and Electron Affinity 21:09 Exceptions in the Ionization Energy Trend 25:32 Exceptions in the Electron Affinity Trend 28:15 Successive Electron Affinities (2nd, 3rd, etc.) 31:51 Successive Electron Affinities https://www.chadsprep.com/
