Chad provides an introduction to Atomic Theory and Atomic Structure. He begins with the four points of modern atomic theory as theorized by John Dalton. He then describes the subatomic particles of an atom (protons, neutrons, electrons) and briefly summarizes the history of their discoveries by Thompson, Millikan, and Rutherford. Chad then defines isotopes and reveals how to use isotope symbols to determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in an atom. He then concludes the lesson explaining how to use the masses and relative abundances of an element's isotopes to calculate its atomic weight as listed on the periodic table.
