Chad provides a comprehensive lesson on Le Chatelier's Principle which states that a system at equilibrium will respond to any stress placed upon it to counteract the stress (to return to equilibrium). Reactions my shift right towards the products or shift left toward the reactants in order to return to equilibrium. Le Chatelier's Principle is also explained in terms of the rates of the forward and reverse reactions as well as in a comparison of the reaction quotient with the equilibrium constant. The effects of all of the following are examined: increasing / decreasing the concentration of a reactant, increasing / decreasing the concentration of a product, adding / removing a solid, increasing / decreasing the pressure, and increasing / decreasing the temperature.
