Chad breaks down the absorption and emission spectra of the hydrogen atom. He first introduces the Bohr model of the atom showing that the energy of an electron is quantized. He then shows how to calculate the energy of an electron in the hydrogen atom according to a simple equation and then how to calculate the energy, wavelength, and frequency of the absorbed or emitted photons using the difference in the energies of an electron or by using the Rydberg equation. Finally, Chad concludes the lesson by explaining the different emission spectra series: Lyman, Balmer, Paschen, and Bracket and how that several lines in the Balmer series are in the visible spectrum.
