Stay tuned to the end for a chance to win a prize! If you’ve ever felt stuck trying to light a location in an interesting way, we know how you feel. A good location can go a long way when it comes to creating great images, but sometimes all you have is the corner of a bedroom. No matter where you are, you can still use lighting to tell a story -- maybe even more than just one! Today on 4 Minute Film School, we’re going to show you how we used lighting to create three distinct looks in one location. In this video, Matt from the A-Team will walk you through three different lighting setups for three different visual styles, all in the same location. First, he decides on the look that he’s going for with each shot. This might be based on a lighting trend or a type of project. Next, he positions the camera within the location to find the angle that best compliments that visual style. Lastly, he creates a lighting setup that further sells the look of the scene. Different visual styles will use different lighting techniques, and knowing which ones fit where will help you achieve the look you’re going for. Overall, the lighting can completely change the look of a location. You can even use lighting to make the same room look like three entirely different places. The next time you’re up against the wall with your lighting, think about what you can do with the space that you have in order to alter its appearance, using only lighting. You’d be surprised what you can come up with. Make sure to keep the story in mind, and let that guide your lighting decisions.
