Project Management Course - Beginner to Project Manager Building a Project Schedule in Excel with RAG Status & Preparation for Gantt Chart In this lesson, we built the foundation of a practical project schedule in Excel by structuring activities with clear hierarchy, using decimal numbering for sub-activities, and highlighting key phases of a software development project from initiation to closure. We also added essential schedule fields like start and end dates, applied proper date formatting, and improved readability through formatting techniques such as indentation and font styling. Finally, we introduced a more advanced and realistic way to track progress using RAG status (Red, Amber, Green), allowing better visibility of delays and risks beyond simple “not started” or “completed” statuses. With this structured schedule in place, we are now ready to take the next step and transform it into a fully functional Gantt chart in Excel.
