Project Management Course - Beginner to Project Manager Milestone Tables & Project Control: From Gantt Charts to Clear Progress Tracking In summary, a well-built project plan ensures nothing is missed, but a full activity list can quickly become overwhelming for stakeholders. That’s why we use a milestone table—an effective high-level view that highlights key achievements, deliverables, and major stages of the project in a simple and understandable way. Milestones represent significant points in the project, each with zero duration, such as main construction completed, personnel preparation completed, and grand opening. When combined with the critical path and Gantt chart, they give both detail and clarity: the full picture for project managers, and a clear progress overview for senior stakeholders. To recap, we start with a Work Breakdown Structure, build an activity list, define dependencies, identify the critical path, and then schedule using a Gantt chart. Finally, we summarize everything into a detailed project plan and a high-level milestone table. With these tools in place, project progress becomes clear, structured, and easy to communicate at every level. Next up, we move into budgeting—where we explore how project managers control costs and maximize efficiency. See you in the next lesson.
