In the past, we have seen how bargaining problems and regime types affect the prevalence of war. What about individual leaders? Sometimes, leader incentives do not perfectly match the population's incentives. This creates a principal-agent problem, a mechanism common in political science and economics. We will investigate the usefulness of the theory in this unit.
