In this video, we are going to model a small ribbed slab in Autodesk Robot, preparing it for design in a later video. Some discussions with Engr. Donald Khanye: POINT 1: Tip for shifting beams Engr. Khanye: Useful tip: As an alternative to deleting and re-drawing a beam when shifting the beam end "or start" node from one node number to the other node number as it was done in this video as part of the practical mesh refinement process, one can also select the beam to be moved and directly change the beam end "or start" node number by typing-in the new node number directly on the members properties dialog box under the object inspector dialog box. POINT 2: About stirrups Engr. Khanye: Whilst I do not disagree with this statement; I’d like to mention that there can also be rib slabs that do have stirrups located within the ribs CEE: About stirrups, indeed, it depends on the region. Also, some people consider the "W-shaped steel bars that carry the bars" as stirrups. The more conservative assumption is to assume no stirrups and keep those W shapes as factor of safety.
