Chad briefly covers two benzene reduction reactions in this lesson. In the first, he shows how catalytic hydrogenation fails with benzene under normal conditions due to the stability of the aromatic system, but succeeds at elevated pressures. In the second Chad shows the Birch reduction revealing where the reduction takes place when either an electron-withdrawing or electron-donating substituent is attached to the benzene ring.
