There’s no such thing as a ‘typical’ man. But traditional ideas about masculinity do exist. They can have a profound impact on men, especially when they need to talk about their mental health. That’s why around 40% of men wouldn’t consider speaking openly about theirs. Embarrassment and fear of stigma can stop men accessing support when they need it. This can leave them feeling they have to manage their mental health alone. When encouraging men to open up about their mental health, you’ve got to recognise why they might find it challenging. This course will help you understand the specific barriers men may experience when talking about mental health. It’ll also help you spot the signs that your colleagues need to talk, and support the men in your workplace in accessing assistance, when needed. By the end of this course, you’ll be able to: ● Identify signs that suggest your colleagues need to talk about their mental health, so you can encourage them to do so ● Recognise the specific barriers many men face when talking about mental health, so you can support colleagues to overcome them ● Explain how to support men in the workplace to overcome stigma and talk about their mental health 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲? 1 in 4 adults will experience mental illness at some point in their lives.
