The sorting algorithm is an algorithm that puts elements of a list into order. In this tutorial, Vamsi walks you through the basics of sorting algorithms in data structures and algorithms. A Sorting Algorithm is used to rearrange a given array or list elements according to a comparison operator on the elements. The comparison operator is used to decide the new order of elements in the respective data structure. The most frequently used orders are numerical order and lexicographical order, and either ascending or descending. Efficient sorting is important for optimising the efficiency of other algorithms that require input data to be in sorted lists. Sorting is also often useful for processing data and for producing human-readable output.
