Lecture 5 (of six we are showing) covers some of the main classical distributions of discrete random variables and how they arise in some examples. We also introduce the notion of the expectation of a discrete random variable, which captures the average value under its distribution as a weighted average of its possible values, weighted by their probability of occurrence. Finally, we define independence of discrete random variables.
