Law and Mental Health: Recognizing and Assessing Stalking -Troy McEwan, DPsych Troy McEwan is Professor of Clinical and Forensic Psychology, based at the Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science, Swinburne University of Technology, in Melbourne, Australia. She is also a Principal Psychologist at the Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health (Forensicare). Since the late 2000s, Troy's research has focussed on understanding, assessing and responding to problem behaviours like stalking, family violence, and firesetting. In addition to scholarly publications she is co-author of several risk assessment guides for family violence and stalking that are used internationally, and recently co-authored the book Treating Stalking, which gives detailed and evidence-based guidance for practitioners working with this difficult client group. She is a Past-President of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law, and sits on the editorial boards for Criminal Justice and Behavior, Journal of Family Violence, Journal of Threat Assessment and Management, and Psychiatry, Psychology and Law. Learning Objectives: 1. Describe stalking and recognize its presentation in assessments. 2. Discuss potential reasons that people stalk that might be a focus of assessment and formulation. 3.
