Law and Mental Health: Geriatric Forensic Evaluations -Karen Reimers, MD Dr. Reimers is a psychiatrist in private practice. She serves as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Central Florida and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Reimers is the author of the Clinician's Guide to Geriatric Forensic Evaluations (Academic Press, 2019). She is an experienced expert witness focusing on contested wills and trusts, cognitive impairment, and undue influence. Learning Objectives: 1. Recognize key medical, psychiatric, and cognitive factors complicating forensic evaluations of older adults, such as dementia and polypharmacy. 2. Assess strategies for conducting comprehensive geriatric forensic evaluations. 3. Assess ethical and legal issues in guardianship, and decision-making capacity in older adults, and their impact on clinical practice.
