In addition, it explains why the conservation of linear momentum occurs for every collision using newton's laws of motion and action reaction forces. Momentum is the product of mass and velocity. It's a vector quantity that contains both magnitude and direction. Force is defined as the rate of change of momentum per unit time. This video also contains an example problem that asks you to calculate the force exerted by a water hose given the speed of the fluid and the mass flow rate.
