History of Indian Civilization, [Lec 13]; UCLA, Lecture of 8 February 2012. Concluding portion of my lecture on the Niti Sastras; contrast with Dharma Sastras. NIti Sastras are stories, they are more robust; deal with 'conduct'. Comments on folktales of India, on the Pancatantra, and on the Kathasaritsagara. The story of Solomon's justice, and the story of the four Brahmins and the lion. The bulk of this lecture is on the history of Indian art and architecture--images of the Buddha, Gandhara sculpture, Ajanta, Ellora; concludes with a discussion of the famous Boddhisattva painting from Ajanta.
