Always wear eye and ear protection and secure any loose clothing, jewelry and long hair. Keep hands 6 inches from the blade and off the turntable. Do not cross your arms as you cut. Support your work piece with a feed support or stand.
Before powering up, bring the blade down to ensure you are still on your mark. Bring the blade up to the top position, power it up and bring it back down, into the wood. If you're using a sliding miter saw, you always want the sliding motion to be in toward the fence.
