BEHAVIOUR THAT CAN WEAKEN THE GLUTEUS MEDIUS: As yoga teachers if you only focus on stretching & not strenthting, It does not make any sense, till the time you do not analyse your students common behaviour that is leading to Weak Glutes. These behaviors have all been found to be contributing factors to the weakening of the gluteus medius and causing issues with hip control and stability. Glute Medius is one of the phasic muscles that tends to be inhibited or stops working due to many causes.Lets go through some of these cause. That might help you if lots of other problems.. nothing harm in trying… Standing With Weight Shifted: This is the most common error and one that I’m sure everyone has been guilty of to some degree. Standing with pelvis swayed one side leads to excessive adduction lengthens glute medius resulting in decreased hip stability. Be sure to maintain proper posture when you are standing so that this doesn’t become an issue. Marathon Runners: Hip drop often happens with weak Gute Medius, this can increase tension through tissues such as the iliotibial band, which can lead to ITB syndrome, second most common is the lateral knee pain due to shortened ilitibial band third it can lead to excessive pronation of foot that can cause Plantar fasciitis. Remember the Dominos Effect. Sitting with crossed legs Sitting with crossed legs for three or more hours per day can cause lateral pelvic tilt. Leading to scoliosis (when your spine curves sideways)And even inclined shoulders, meaning that one shoulder was higher than the other. Not only this but you can also have a head forward and neck pain, and this is what we call the Kinetic Chain or Dominoes Effect. Gluteus Medius-Hip Adductor InteractionTight hip adductors which sends a reciprocal inhibition to Glutes medius. Most athletes suffer from tight and strong adductors as well as a weak Glute Med.  When this happens, the knee has a tendency to move into a Valgus position (moves inward towards the midline), causing patellafemoral pain and worse yet, and ACL injury. Sleeping On Side With No Pillow:Sleeping behavior is highly personal, and many people just prefer one position. Sleeping on sides with no pillow can result in weak gluteus medius muscles and tight adductors. Friends these were some of the habits patterns that one should check, before coming to any conclusion of whether to stretch or strengthen any muscles.Don’t just blindly follow a standard operating procedure that you were taught in your school.. think differently. Now lets talk about the asanas and exercises in the next video.
