Exceptions are created by using a 'throw' statement. We can handle exceptions then within the context of a try/catch block. I like to think of the try/catch block as a switch/case statement (with a default catch(...)), or otherwise like in pattern matching in other languages. Exceptions typically should be thrown as values and then handled as references. Exceptions generally speaking, are a way to handle errors in a segregated section of code. Exceptions can also be further propagated if needed.
