We are refactoring our FastAPI Dockerfiles to use multi-stage builds. We are moving away from single-stage setups that ship unnecessary build tools and source code into production. I will also reveal the two final steps most developers forget: configuring a strict .dockerignore file to prevent context bloat, and using the --no-dev flag to strip out development dependencies completely.
