Do you know what’s common in a queue, sunlight, maps, the distance between your house and your friend’s house? They all have important elements of geometry. That is a line, a ray, point, and line segment. Let me explain each element in detail. POINT Have you ever marked a location on a map? Then you must know what a point is! You mark a location by using a dot. A dot is identified as Point. LINE When you stand in a queue you stand in a line. The queue has a start and an end point. It can extend both ways RAY You see the rays of sunlight in one direction, isn’t it? These rays which keep extending only from one side is called a ray. To draw a ray, you draw a point and then draw a straight line coming out of it in one direction. At the end of the line, you add an arrow point to show it goes on forever. LINE SEGMENT A line segment has a definite point at each end. Meaning, a line which cannot be extended on any of its sides. You draw a straight line which has a point on both the ends.
